How do I adopt an animal from Moonstone Rescue?
To adopt, download our adoption form from the adoption page and email it to us along with a copy of your proof of ID & Address. We will review your application and arrange a virtual home check with you to discuss what you are looking for, and a bit more about you to find the purr-fect match!
What is the adoption fee, and what does it cover? 💲
Our adoption fee donation is £150 minimum per cat, which includes:
-
Neutering
-
First and second vaccinations
-
Microchipping
-
Flea and worm treatment
-
Vet check before leaving the rescue
Can I adopt if I have other pets or children? 👶🏽
Yes, many of our animals can live with other pets or respectful children, depending on their individual needs. We’ll help match you with a suitable animal.
How does your matching system work? 💕
At Moonstone Rescue, we don’t operate on a first-come, first-served basis. Instead, we use a thoughtful matching system to ensure every cat is placed in the most suitable home for their personality and needs. Once your application is approved, we’ll get to know you, your lifestyle, and what you’re looking for in a companion (such as age, gender, or temperament). We then suggest cats that are the best fit for you and your family—because the right match leads to the happiest outcome for both you and the animal.
What support do you offer after adoption?📞
At Moonstone Rescue, we want every adoption to be a happy and successful experience for both you and your new cat—whether you’re a seasoned cat owner or welcoming a feline friend for the very first time. That’s why we stay in touch after you bring your cat home to see how things are going. We typically check in with you the day after adoption, then again at 1 week, 1 month, and 2 months. During these times, you can ask questions, share updates, or seek advice. We’re always here to help you settle your new family member comfortably and confidently.
Are your cats indoor-only or can they go outside? 🌳
At Moonstone Rescue, many of our cats have spent time indoors while in foster care, but their needs vary. Some cats are happiest as indoor-only companions, especially those with health concerns or shy temperaments, while others enjoy time outdoors. We’ll discuss your home environment and lifestyle during the matching process to recommend the best fit. If your new cat will have outdoor access, we can provide guidance on how to keep them safe, including advice on gradual introductions and monitoring.
What types of animals can I foster?
We usually need fosters for cats and sometimes small exotics. We’ll work with you to find the right match for your home and experience.
Can I adopt my foster animal?
Absolutely. If you fall in love with your foster and they’re a good fit for your family, you can apply to adopt them officially. We call this a “foster fail”—but in the best way!
Please note the adoption still has to go through the adoption process and is subject to the matching process and minimum £150 adoption fee donation and is not guaranteed just because you fostered.
How can I donate to Moonstone Rescue?
You can donate in several ways:
-
💸 PayPal
-
🏦 Bank transfer
-
📦 Amazon Wishlist for food, litter, and enrichment items
All links and details can be found on our Donate Page.
How do I apply to volunteer?
You can download the volunteer form from our website and send it back to us by email along with your proof of ID & Address. If you’re not sure which role suits you best or how you can help, don't worry as we can discuss this further during a call we will organise after we receive your form.
Is Moonstone Rescue a registered charity?
Moonstone Rescue is a not-for-profit, volunteer-run organisation. While we are not a registered charity at this time, every penny donated goes directly toward the animals in our care. We rely entirely on public support to fund vet treatment, food, transport, and emergency rescues.
Do you offer in-person visits? 🏠
No. For insurance and foster home privacy reasons, all introductions are virtual via photos, videos, and full background details. This helps keep everyone safe and comfortable.
Why do you charge an adoption fee? ❓
The fee helps offset the significant costs involved in preparing animals for adoption. We spend over £200 per cat in vet care alone. Your contribution helps us continue rescuing others.
Can I adopt if I live in rented accommodation? 🏢
Yes, as long as you have written permission from your landlord.
Can I adopt a cat if I work full time? 💻
Yes, absolutely! Many of our cats are perfectly content with a calm environment and will happily snooze while you're at work. We’ll help you find a cat whose needs and temperament are suited to your routine. Some cats do better with more company, so we’ll always match you carefully.
Why was my adoption application not successful?
We know it can be disappointing if your adoption application isn’t approved, and we want to be as transparent as possible about our process.
At Moonstone Rescue, we are a small, foster-based rescue that carefully considers each application to ensure the best possible outcome for both our cats and their new families. We review many factors, including:
-
The suitability and safety of your home environment
-
Your experience with and understanding of the commitment involved in adopting a rescue cat
-
The specific needs and personalities of the cats currently in our care
-
Finding the best possible match to ensure the wellbeing of both cat and adopter
Sometimes this means we are unable to approve every application, particularly when we believe a placement wouldn’t be in the best interest of the cat or the applicant.
Due to limited resources and time, we are unable to provide detailed individual feedback or enter into ongoing discussions regarding application decisions.
What does fostering involve?
Fostering means offering a temporary home to an animal in need. As we are fully self funded and volunteer run, we as that you provide the food and litter; and we cover all veterinary costs. We offer full support and guidance throughout the foster period.
How do I apply to foster?
Simply download the foster form from our website and email it to us along with your proof of ID & Address. We’ll get in touch to discuss next steps.
What do donations help with?
Your donations directly fund veterinary care, medication, emergency rescues, food, supplies, and more. Just £10 can treat a cat for fleas & worms; £120 can neuter them. Every donation, big or small, makes a huge difference.
Can I volunteer with Moonstone Rescue?
Yes! We’re always looking for dedicated volunteers to help with:
-
Emergency callout responses (drivers needed)
-
Admin tasks
-
Fundraising
-
Social media and digital support
Volunteers must be 18+.
Why do you ask for proof of ID and address, and how is it handled?

In line with our GDPR policy, any documents sent to us are used solely for this purpose. Once your information is confirmed, any copies are securely deleted and not stored or shared.
